Anthropic Integration
Connecting Anthropic brings your AI API spend into Cloud ex Machina alongside your cloud infrastructure costs, so you have one place to track, allocate, and act on the full picture of what your engineering teams are spending.
Two connection types exist, each covering a different slice of Anthropic activity:

Pick the one that matches your Anthropic plan, or set up both if you have Enterprise.
Anthropic (Analytics)
This connection pulls per-seat usage metrics from Anthropic's analytics platform — useful when you want visibility into how teams are consuming Chat, Claude Code, or Cowork rather than just raw API spend.
In Cloud ex Machina this integration is called Anthropic.
Prerequisites
- Cloud ex Machina Admin access
- An Anthropic Enterprise plan with analytics provisioning (contact your Anthropic rep if you're unsure whether this is enabled)
- Primary Owner role in your Anthropic organization
Step 1: Generate an Analytics API Key
- Sign in to claude.ai
- Navigate to Analytics > API Keys — direct URL:
claude.ai/analytics/api-keys - Click Create API Key and name it
Cloud ex Machina - Copy the key
Anthropic provisions analytics access separately from the base Enterprise plan. If it's missing, reach out to your Anthropic account team.
Step 2: Add the connection in Cloud ex Machina
- Go to Settings > Integrations
- Find Anthropic and click Connect
- Fill in:
- API Key — from Step 1
- API Version — defaults to
2023-06-01, change only if Anthropic instructs you to
- Click Test Connection, then Save
Anthropic Administrator
This connection reads billing and usage data from Anthropic's developer console and makes it available in Cloud ex Machina for cost allocation.
In Cloud ex Machina this integration is called Anthropic Administrator.
Prerequisites
- Cloud ex Machina Admin access
- An Anthropic Team, Enterprise, or pay-as-you-go account
- Admin role in your Anthropic organization — only Admins can generate Admin API Keys
Step 1: Generate an Admin API Key
Admin API Keys can only be created by organization Admins. If that's not you, share these instructions with whoever holds that role.
- Sign in to platform.claude.com, go to Settings > API Keys
- Click Create Key
- Give it a recognizable name —
Cloud ex Machinaworks well - Make sure the key type is set to Admin API Key
- Copy the key before closing the dialog — Anthropic won't show it again
Once you leave the creation screen, the key is gone from Anthropic's UI. Save it somewhere secure before continuing.
Step 2: Add the connection in Cloud ex Machina
- Go to Settings > Integrations
- Find Anthropic Administrator and click Connect
- Fill in:
- API Key — from Step 1
- API Version — defaults to
2023-06-01, change only if Anthropic instructs you to
- Click Test Connection, then Save
What happens after connecting
Both connection types follow the same flow once saved:
- The connection status will read Pending Data during the first ingestion
- It moves to Healthy once Cloud ex Machina has successfully pulled your first dataset
- Spend data appears in your dashboards within 24 hours
For Analytics connections, Cloud ex Machina will backfill up to 12 months of historical data. Note that Anthropic only has usage records going back to January 1, 2026, and billing figures can shift by up to 30 days as Anthropic finalizes reconciliation.
